Marcel Hirscher is back!

When I saw the news that morning, I thought, still confused, 1st of April is 24 days behind and I didn't get the joke. But it was all over the media - Marcel Hirscher is planning his comeback to Alpine skiing World Cup.

Five years after he crossed the finish line last time, Hirscher should be at the start gate again, wearing a suit with Netherlands flag, his mother's homeland (is that you, Lucas Braathen?). Ski Austria is supporting him in this venture.

Unofficially, the plan is only for the next season with a major focus on World Championships in Saalbach. It is speculated that Marcel is doing this also with huge PR for his ski brand Van Deer in mind. By now, he probably believed more top skiers will be switching to his product.

You could see him in the gates for testing occasionally, a few years back he even started as a forerunner on Streif Downhill, but few saw him making an actual comeback. One could argue does he really need something like this after such successful career, but at the same time, every real alpine skiing fan is asking himself "how fast would Hirscher be if he comes back". Well, we should find out soon.

And you thought you could wait for new season in peace...
